APRA Asks
Michigan to Green Their Fleets
June 1, 2011
CHANTILLY, VIRGINIA – In a May 17th letter to all 110 members of the Michigan
House of Representatives, the Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association (APRA)
asked them to “green” their fleet of motor vehicles in Michigan.
The Michigan Senate included language in SB-0185 that stated, “In order to
reduce costs and maintain quality, it is the intent of the legislature that,
excluding the fleet of motor vehicles for the department of State police, the
department will prioritize the utilization of remanufactured parts as the
primary means of maintenance and repair for the state of Michigan’s fleet of
motor vehicles.” According to the office of Senator John Pappageorge, sponsor of
SB-0185, the language is still intact in the House, awaiting approval.
APRA Chief Operating Officer and lifelong Michigan resident, Mark Kothe stated,
“It is great to see the Michigan Senate adopting language to encourage the
purchase of remanufactured parts in their state vehicles to save taxpayer
dollars. As a result of their action, they will also end up creating well needed
jobs in Michigan and helping the environment.” Kothe added, “After all,
remanufacturing is the ultimate form of recycling.”
APRA encourages the Michigan House to adopt the language in SB-0185 as well.
