APRA Detroit
Electrical Clinic to Tour Ford F150 Assembly Plant
April 5, 2011
CHANTILLY, VIRGINIA – The Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association’s (APRA)
Electrical Division will be hosting a regional clinic at the Crowne Plaza Hotel
Detroit Metro Airport on May 20th - 21st. The clinic will begin with a 90 minute
guided tour of the Ford F150 assembly plant in Dearborn, Michigan. More than a
walk along an assembly line, the Ford Rouge Factory Tour is an excursion where
environmental innovation and industrial production combine. After the tour there
will be a Roundtable Discussion back at the hotel, moderated by Electrical
Division Chairman, Dan Smith, followed up by a Reception & Mini Exposition,
sponsored by Zurich.
The seminar portion of the clinic will take place on Saturday, May 21st with the
following topics:
Testing The Future: Remanufacturing Quality Units, Phil Falk, D&V
Electronics
Test methods for the modern electrical systems that you should be aware of.
There are many new units with communication protocols that Phil will cover along
with 911 testing for LIN controlled systems.
Computer Activation & Regulator Interface, Mohammad Samii, Sammy’s Auto
Electric
Knowing the newer systems have voltage regulators that not only control voltage
but also communicate with PCM, a detailed explanation of computer activation and
regulator interface will be discussed. Using regulators in systems that have to
be matched up is a serious industry issue, and there are many cases where the
regulator works but the warning light would not go off. Numerous other
compatibility issues will also be covered.
Marketing Your Small Business, Aaron Tobin, Reman Forums/Global Remanufacturing
Batteries, Allan Hillyer, P.E., Exide
Rebuilding the Newer Starters and Alternators, Mohammad Samii, Sammy’s
Auto Electric
This part of Mohammad's presentation is directed more toward the practical
aspect of rebuilding and is aimed for hands-on rebuilders. Rebuilding some newer
starters and alternators are shown in step-by-step pictorials, as well as how to
replace slip rings in various CS, Ford, and Bosch internal fan rotors. Also,
what tools are needed to perform the job more efficiently will be detailed. This
hands-on segment has been very popular among the rebuilders who have seen it in
various APRA Electrical Clinics.
