CO2 Footprints of Reman at BIG R Show

September 7, 2010

CHANTILLY, VIRGINIA – Dr. Rolf Steinhilper will speak on “Remanufacturing Benefits for Ecology and Economy” at the Opening Session of APRA’s International BIG R Show on Sunday, October 31, 2010 in Las Vegas.

Following the internationally approved rules and procedures of the Global Panel on Climate Change (GPCC) on measuring CO2 footprints, Professor Steinhilper’s scientists found a triple eco-efficient performance of remanufacturing compared to new manufacturing of the same product or part. Steinhilper stated, “This very positive general average results will vary depending on the product being remanufactured, the materials involved, the cleaning technologies applied and whether the remanufacturing activities are from an OEM or an independent aftermarket company. Transport logistics (sourcing globally or regionally) also will influence the measurement.”

APRA President Bill Gager commented, “The remanufacturing industry has known for decades about our favorable impact on reducing CO2 emissions. The results of this recent analysis dramatically show how remanufacturing is three times more environmentally beneficial than new manufacturing – and how it generates full product quality at half the price of new.”

Steinhilper added, “Examples from engine, turbocharger and electrical remanufacturing companies will be covered along with some recommendations on how a company can further improve their CO2 performance.”

Steinhilper is Head of the Institute of Manufacturing and Remanufacturing Technology at the University of Bayreuth in Germany. He has been an active participant at APRA Conventions and Meetings for over 30 years and also serves on the Board of Directors of APRA’s European Division.
